Just to clarify, I’m no expert.
I have though visited the Hawaiian Island of Oahu 3 times from the UK. First time we stayed at the Outrigger Islander about 5 mins from the beach, second time at the Outrigger Reef on the beach and last time at the Outrigger Waikiki Shore.
Staying on the beach definitely beats inland. Taking breakfast looking out at the sea really sets you up for the day. The Outrigger Reef and Shore are right next door to each other and people staying at the Shore can also use the facilities of the Reef.
The Reef is more expensive especially if you want a sea view. The Shore is the only condo based on the beach with nearly all rooms having a side on sea view. Reserve a room on a high floor and you get an excellent view of the beach. The room standard is not as high as that of the Reef, but they are clean, well maintained and more than adequate.
The bonus with staying at the Shore is really the view. You would pay a lot more for comparable views with any other hotel on the beach. As it’s a condo you also get a small kitchen with a washer/dryer and a lot more space than most hotel rooms.
If we ever return, staying at the Shore will definitley be top of our list. If you are planning to go to Hawaii, you won’t go far wrong staying there. Oh, and great views of the sunsets.
