A Camper Van Holiday

submitted By : admin

Camper Van Holidays

If ever you wish to break free from the confines of routine life and do something adventurous on your own, then camper van holidaying is an option you may wish to consider. A camper van holiday can be one of the most relaxing and affordable ways to enjoy a holiday. Camper van holidays allow you to drive whenever and wherever you want to go at your pace. The UK and Europe have a large number of touring caravan parks that you can make home for the night.

Hiring a Camper Van

You can hire a camper van for your holiday from specialised operators or from one of the larger national companies. Generally hire charges are based on a daily cost calculated from the day of pick up as day one to drop off as the last day. The camper vans usually include cooking utensils, sleeping bags or duvet, towels, LPG gas bottle etc and all you should need to ensure a good experience. They should also be able to provide you with a touring caravan park directory.

A standard car license is all that is required to drive off on a camper van holiday in the U.K. All drivers must present a current U.K, International, or acceptable overseas license written in English at commencement of hire. A selection of campervan hire companies can be found in the Camper Van Holidays section of the site directory.

If you plan to go touring around Europe, there is a highly rated Lonely Planet guide by Scott McNeely called “Europe on a Shoestring” which you can get from Amazon or any good local bookstores.

Some Important Considerations

Before proceeding on a camper van holiday, a full vehicle and third party insurance is compulsory. The insurance bond with the rental agent is normally held in the form of a credit card imprint and is not debited unless the vehicle is involved in an accident.

When choosing an insurance policy some of the points that should be considered are, whether or not the policy premium is competitive, does the policy cover personal contents, does the policy cover emergency accommodation and urgent repairs to the vehicle, is flood cover included, are there any charges that may be levied after repairs have been completed, etc.

Last but not the least are the health and safety issues, many travel-specific health concerns could arise while on the road when you are enjoying your camper van holiday. You may be uncomfortable with local drugs and procedures or be prone to food poisoning.

Thus it is highly recommended before you leave, that you make sure you have had all of the necessary inoculations and vaccinations because in some parts of Central and Eastern Europe, stray dogs are a problem, bites are common, and rabies shots are available in very few hospitals. Be sure to also bring enough prescription medicine to last your camper van holiday.

A first-aid kit is always advisable and is a must when traveling to remote areas. Thus while dining on local cuisine and ascending a breathtaking mountain can be some of the most rewarding parts of a camper van trip, it is essential to keep in mind that health comes first. A few precautions before you go can make your holiday a memorable one.
